Conclusion

As one can see, violent video games have a detrimental effect on the growing minds of young children. They cause increased levels of aggression that could lead to violent acts in school, at home, in public places, and other areas. It is imperative that all adults who have children, grandchildren, or look after a young one monitor their adolescents' exposure to violent video games.

"Parents should recognize that video games can have powerful effects on children, and should therefore set limits on the amount and content of games their children play" (Gentile, "The Effects of Video Games on Children: What Parents Need to Know"). Parents should monitor their child's exposure time to "M" rated games because in doing so they prevent massacres like Sandy Hook and Columbine from reoccurring. The less time their child spends on a video game console, the less likely they will become a perpetrator of another devastating event that takes the lives of many. It has been proven that, "children whose parents limited the amount of time they could play and also used the video game ratings to limit the content of the games have [children that got] into fewer fights" (Gentile “The Effects of Video Games on Children: What Parents Need to Know”). Similarly, like Lieutenant Grossman said, "Not every kid will be a killer, but all killers have played these games" ("Best News: Are Violent Video Games Training Our Children to Kill?"). In limiting a child's time playing violent video games, parents prevent a possible killer from emerging.

Why?

There have been many possible routes one can take to promote awareness and try to curb the increase in massacres. Stop the Madness believes the best possible path is to push for legislation that prevents any child from being able to obtain "M" rated or other violent video games. Our great nation has multiple laws regarding gun control, drug control, and other legislation that guides citizens. Why, with the increased levels of violence, do we not have a law that controls video game use? With any law passed, concerns for an issue need to be addressed. We urges all adults to come together and force their congressional heads to pass legislation that regulates violent video games and makes them harder for children to obtain. Please step up and do not let your child become another statistic.
